Kei is one of my best friends and I consider this to be a sort of portrait of how I see her avatar. So it didn't take long for me to figure out what I wanted to do for this. When I think of a skulldog I think of....
First off, Blue Dog. Was that the name of the book? I loved the colors in that book, and how I just looked forward to turning each page thinking about how those colors would surprise me. Every time I think of Skulldog, I remember that particularly brilliant blue. Of course I had to add that in to my picture.
Second, Dreams. This Skulldog is walking across the dream, ruining it, and going back into the night. I thought about that feeling you get right before you wake up from a dream.. you can feel the world around you melting into darkness, and you're not sure if you want to hold on to the reality that you have, or plunge into the nighttime world of reality that you don't quite remember..
When I think of Skulldogs, I figure they bring dreams. Fantasies, illusions, hallucinations, any kind of dreams. Thinking back on the commonality of scary hallways in Kei's dreams, I thought some kind of creepy city would fit.
Finally, one last thing I think of is a certain paper mache sculpture that haunted our underground altar to music. Maybe this is just nostalgia, but it definitely came to mind a million times while I was drawing this..
I love this! I sort of want the edges between dream and night to be softer, but then I get distracted by how amazing that city is, and the way you united the purples and oranges and blues. Hee.
not to mention the awesome, stylized background!
